Studied at Pei Shi Primary School, Kuala Kedah until 6th grade (full primary?) in 1957. Continued at Hwa Keow High School until form 3?. Studied at an English School St Thomas, situated at Jalan Teluk Wanjah for another few years then St Michaels. Originally he and his elder brother shared the family business in Kuala Kedah when their father retired. In 1990 he owned his own shop house in the nearby settlement under the banner of Thye Moh. Business was good and he expanded by buying the house next door.

Also Director of several companies and a casual current affairs columnist for Kwong Wah Newspaper.

She attended St. Nicholas Convent from 1955 to 1965 then spent the next two years as a teacher’s aide then went to the Specialist Teachers Training Institute from 1967 to 68. Her first posting was Hwa Keoh (K) Chinese Primary School as an English and Physical Education teacher. She met her husband while at the teachers college.

He attended Pei Shi Primary School, Kuala Kedah, in 1956 until 1957. So there were 3 brothers there (2nd bro was teaching) at the school that year. Transferred to Hwa Keow (H) Chinese Primary School, Jalan Kampong Perak, Alor Setar in 1958 by 2nd Brother.

(Swee Kwang was enrolled at the same school at a later date. It was intended that Jacqueline would go to the same school when she started school in 1973. Her parent mixed up the two Keat Hwa Primary Schools (H and K) which shared the same buildings. (Keat Hwa (meaning Kedah Chinese) was the later name of Hwa Keow (which meant Overseas Chinese and was considered politically incorrect) ) and Jacqueline, and later Stephen both went to K school instead. He then went to the English language Sultan Abdul Hamid College in 1962. At this time this school was regarded as the top academic school in Kedah and only the top students could get into it. He completed sixth form 1969 and was a school prefect. To help in his studies he stayed for a while at Bee Bee Park with his eldest sister so he would not get involved in working in his father's shop and could instead study.

He then enrolled to study mechanical engineering at the University of Adelaide, arrived in Adelaide Feb 1970. The University of Adelaide was one of the 2 or 3 unis which would accept students based on predicted final sixth form exam (HSC) results. Final results would not be available until March/April, too late for Australian Universities. That was the reason for coming to Adelaide. Resulting in subsequent enrolment by Stephen Heng in Adelaide.

On graduation, worked for Engineering and Water Supply Department (now SA Water), South Australian Government, changed to Department of Labour in 1984.

In 19?? he moved to Magill which at the foot of the Adelaide Hills and very close to the famous Penfolds Magill winery even though now it is surrounded by housing estates. He retired in 2011 but continued to work as a consultant until January 2012.

He married (2) Ooi Bee Tean 黄美婷 #8608, married 10 April 1999 in St. Joseph's RC Church, Kensington Gardens, Adelaide, South Australia. 4th daughter of OOI Ee Beow and LIM Pheik Siew. Born and grew up in Bagan and Butterworth, Province Wellesley, studied in Poh Teh high School, Penang. She completed teachers training and taught in a number of Chinese primary schools, eventually became the head mistress of Poi Eng PS, Gelugor, Penang. Her last school was .... before migrating to Australia.
