III. WONG Mou Soon (王茂顺 Wang Mao Shun) (John) #57, born 26 June 1906 in Long Tou 陇头 village, County of Puning, Province of Guangdong, China, baptized before 1924 in possibly the Catholic Church, Guxi village, township of Liang-ying, County of Chaoyang, China, died 05 April 1988 at Home, Alor Setar, Kedah, Malaysia , buried April 1988 in Cemetery, Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaysia, occupation Shopkeeper. He arrived in Malaya as a teenager looking for work when about 15 years old after his oldest brother came here. He returned to China around 1924 with his eldest brother and was married there in his home village or more likely at the Catholic Church in Guxi village, township of Liang-ying. He then returned to Malaya with his wife. The original house was fairly remote and to his wife coming from China it was a cultural shock. He first worked in the Kuala Kedah area as a labourer then as a tenant farmer at Sungai Papang and later started doing some trading. He moved to the existing shop house around 1930. The shop was then a small atap building and the road to Kuala Kedah was a dirt track.
Most of his children were born here at the shop house. The locally produced rice was, during the harvest season, bagged and then collected by the shop then sent to the local mill for processing. The rice mill has now ceased production but the population of the surrounding areas has grown rapidly and the shop still serves the same area with the farming area being replaced by houses for the people working in Alor Setar. The building is now run by one of his sons and due to the road works the house has been modified with an upstairs section to replace the section lost from the front. Major road works were done before 2001 and it is now a 6 lane highway.
He retired from running the shop during the mid 1970s and moved to Alor Setar where his wife still lives (2009).

In his early days of running the sundry shop, he would walk to town (Alor Star ) to buy stocks for the shop, a return distance of some 18 km. Later, he acquired a bicycle for the purpose. Unlike the city bike, this 'workhorse' bicycle had a bigger frame, could handle 3 sacks of padi (220 kg). He had a rattan basket carried at the back seat, which he loaded with stocks he bought in town. Around 1960, he bought a motorbike, a Norman. The bike provided him with an easier means of transport, although it carried less than the bicycle. After he had a fall from this bike and he had burnt his leg, Heng Ai Sah took over the stocking errands. It was also this bike which Peter pulled apart once when he was starting to show an interest in becoming an engineer and managed to put generally most of it back again.
He was a founding member and honorary adviser to Kedah and Perlis Wong Clan Taiyuan Tang Association (see history of Wang). Life member of the Penang Wong Clan Taiyuan Tang Assn, deputy chair of the welfare group of the Nam Fong Garden (where he retired) Resident Association.

There is some uncertainty regarding his baptism name as it has been shown also as Joseph and other variations on different Baptism form, however his tombstone has the name of John.

Born about 1906 in Rong-tang (榕堂) village, County of Chaoyang 朝阳, Province of Guangdong, China (daughter of ZHENG (郑) --- #8786 and LIM Goyt Tieng (Cecilia) #1303) baptized before 1924 in possibly the Catholic Church, Guxi village, township of Liang-ying, County of Chaoyang 朝阳, China. Died 1952 in Alor Star, Kedah, Malaya, buried 1952 in Catholic Cemetery, Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaya. Emigrated around 1924 to Malaya with her husband.
She died from complications from childbirth. One elderly aunt can remember that a still born baby was buried with her. Her siblings are not known though she has at least one brother in Hong Kong who did visit Malaysia around 1982.

The choice of the school for wedding was peculiar but it was a neutral non-religious venue. The Goh family was a devout Wesley Methodist family and would like to have wedding at their church. The Wong family, on the other hand insisted that the wedding be held at the Catholic Church (which would have been St Michael, Alor Setar). Apparently there was a tacit agreement to this but was switched to the school last minute very much to the anger of her mother. (told by 2nd sis) .As she married outside the Roman Catholic church, her father was expelled from the church but later was reinstated after representations from his mother in law. It did cause initially some conflict between the two families.
A number of the Wong family members were associated with this Chinese School. Unfortunately, in 1968, a major fire wiped out the Chinese section of Kuala Kedah, the school (which was a timber building) went with it. It was subsequently re-built on a different site and nothing remained of this old school.

She married GOH Heng Pang 吴兴邦 #335 married (religious) after 1947 in Alor Star, Kedah, Malaya, common law 09 March 1947 Pei Shi Primary School, Kuala Kedah, Kedah, Malaya. He was born 27 April 1927 in Alor Setar, Kedah, Unfederated Malay States, Malaya. The Goh family was prominent in fishing, and owned a fishing fleet operating from Kuala Kedah. Today, part of the Goh clan still live there.

The Goh family's fishing business in Kuala Kedah eventually collapsed. The Goh family then moved to a house in Jalan Seberang Perak. Four generations lived in that house for a number of years. While there, Goh Heng Pang gave a last try in the fishing business, this time in Thailand then to Sarawak in 1957, partnered with lo
The Sarawak venture was not successful. The family then returned to Alor Setar and came back after Independence and the family grew up in the Seberang Perak area of Alor Setar where they made fish boxes. Her father assisted them to open a sundry store there in a very compact timber building off Jalan Kanchut (today Lebuhraya Darul Aman) which is on the north side of Alor Setar, in a place called Hoon Fan (Pang?) (literally smoke house, for smoking rubber). This would be around 1959-60. They ran the shop until 1969, when another shop was opened at Bee Bee Park, run by the three eldest sons. Stories have it that the shop was very popular with the locals and the three boys would often have food brought around for them by the local housewives. They later sold their other store and moved to Bee Bee Park. Their sundry store is now run by some of their children.
Celebrated the 60th wedding anniversary and 80th. birthday on 30/06/2007 in Alor Setar.
