He attended Pei Shi Primary School, Kuala Kedah, in 1956 until 1957. So there were 3 brothers there (2nd bro was teaching) at the school that year. Transferred to Hwa Keow (H) Chinese Primary School, Jalan Kampong Perak, Alor Setar in 1958 by 2nd Brother.
(Swee Kwang was enrolled at the same school at a later date. It was intended that Jacqueline would go to the same school when she started school in 1973. Her parent mixed up the two Keat Hwa Primary Schools (H and K) which shared the same buildings. (Keat Hwa (meaning Kedah Chinese)
was the later name of Hwa Keow (which meant Overseas Chinese and was considered politically incorrect) ) and Jacqueline, and later Stephen both went to K school instead. He then went to the English language Sultan Abdul Hamid College in 1962. At this time this school was regarded as the top academic school in Kedah and only the top students could get into it. He completed sixth form 1969 and was a school prefect. To help in his studies he stayed for a while at Bee Bee Park with his eldest sister so he would not get involved in working in his father's shop and could instead study.
He then enrolled to study mechanical engineering at the University of Adelaide, arrived in Adelaide Feb 1970. Uni of Adelaide was one of the 2 or 3 unis which would accept students based on predicted final sixth form exam (HSC) results. Final result would not be available until March/April, too late for Australian Uni. That was the reason for coming to Adelaide. Resulting in subsequent enrolment by Stephen Heng in Adelaide.
On graduation, worked for Engineering and Water Supply Department (now SA Water), South Aust Govt, changed to Department of Labour in 1984.

Suprising how some uni's will let people in based on probable results unless the both of them were very bright at school.
The different ID card for both was due to the different ways the Chinese names were recorded, it must have been a headache for officials in Malaysia!!
